The Project
KTI Institute for Transport Sciences Non-Profit Ltd. and Institute of Spatial Planning (Bratislava, Slovakia) were awarded in 2012 to implement the project “Improving mobility in the Hungarian-Slovakian region by development of public transport” within the framework of Hungary-Slovakia Cross-border Cooperation Program 2007-2013. The overall objectives of the project are the creation of an integrated public transport system in the Slovakian-Hungarian border region and the support of sustainable transport in the cross-border regions. The project started on 1 September 2012 and lasts for 18 months.
The concrete objectives of the projects are as follows:
- harmonisation of data collecting methodology, set up of a common transport database;
- defining transport development objectives based on traffic and passenger surveys, household and border interviews; creation of an Action Plan;
- data analysis, creation of strategy for a cross-border public transport plan;
- elaboration of a proposal regarding on the creation of a cross-border transport alliance.
The project at the same time aims to support the cooperation between transport service operators and public transport authorities.
